Jerónimo de la Fuente Ruled out of Oceania Tour

Jerónimo de la Fuente’s return from injury will have to wait. The Rosario inside center has been ruled out of facing New Zealand and Australia in Argentina’s away Rugby Championship matches in September.

de la Fuente had been named by Daniel Hourcade for the tour but one day later has been replaced. Coming in for him is Gabriel Ascárate, a player not to have faced a Tier 1 opponent for over two years. The Tucumán midfielder has had a horrendous run of injuries since returning home from Scotland in early 2014.

Having been one of Hourcade’s regulars in the Pampas XV he is very much a trusted athlete of El Huevo. He is now the likely emergency option for both center positions. He will be covering Juan Martín Hernández  and Santiago González Iglesias at 12 and Matías Orlando and Matías Moroni at 13.

In naming Ascárate Hourcade stated “We have put together the roster thinking about the injuries that we have. Today it was confirmed that Jero de la Fuente had failed his last tests and we decided to include Gabriel Ascarate.”
