Americas Rankings – August 28 2016

There have been changes to the Americas Rankings following international competition this weekend. The updated Americas Rankings – August 29 2016 sees Argentina extending their lead a the top.

As a result of defeating South Africa in Salta on Saturday Argentina has increased its ranking. The South Americans went into the match on 80.12 points, almost 15 points more than the USA in second spot.

In terms of the World Rankings this meant Argentina went into their home match in 9th position. South Africa did so with 86.41 points making them third in the world. The result of Saturday’s match has seen changes. South Africa drop to 85.08 points but remain in third due to Australia also having lost this weekend.

For Argentina the result sees their new ranking being 81.45 points. This means Argentina has risen two spot to overtake both Scotland and France. In addition Argentina’s new ranking is slightly below that of Ireland who have 81.67 points. Additional Rugby Championship wins would mean further rises above both Ireland and Wales.

Also with new rankings this week are Ecuador and Guatemala. With neither being full World Rugby members they entered Saturday’s encounter both listed as having 30 points. With Ecuador winning by the narrowest of margins they have exchanged points with Ecuador earning 0.70 points at the expense of Guatemala.

Ecuador are therefore to enter the South American B Championship ranked 22nd in the Americas. Guatemala, on the other hand, will enter the South American C Championship ranked 38th.
