Tomás Cubelli Joins 50-Cap Club

On Saturday afternoon Tomás Cubelli will become the 27th Puma to reach 50 caps. The Brumbies scrum half will reach the milestone mark as a replacement against South Africa in Salta.

Cubelli has been selected behind Martín Landajo for the fixture. The Jaguares scrum half will earn his 58th cap and, in doing so, overtake Patricio Albacete to become the 19th most capped Puma in history. Cubelli will join the legendary Mauricio Reggiardo on 50 caps and remain one behind captain Agustín Creevy.

Both Creevy and Lucas González Amorosino are to join Gonzalo Longo on 51 caps in Salta. Further up Juan Martín Hernández will earn his 62nd cap and with it be just one short of both Horacio Agulla and Diego Cuesta Silva.

Having joined Hernández in starting against France in the famous win to open Rugby World Cup 2007 Juan Manuel Leguizamón is now just one cap shy of Agustín Pichot. He will earn his 70th cap in Salta and will equalize both Pichot and Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe should he play again in the Rugby Championship.

Hugo Porta was the first Argentine player to reach 50 caps. Having made his debut against Chile in Montevideo on October 10 1971, he reached the milestone on September 17 1985. His 50th test came against Uruguay in Asunción, Paraguay. It took the legendary Porta a staggering 14 years to reach his half-century, while Tomás Cubelli has achieved it in 6. He debuted against Uruguay in May 2010.
