Agustín Ormaechea produced an impressive performance for Mont de Marsan. In a Pro d2 warm-up fixture the Uruguayan scrum half scored two tries as his team overcame Dax 35-31.
Mont de Marsan fielded different teams for the two halves. Ormaechea started the opening half and did a fine job at directly play.
Hen was not the only South American involved. Indeed the first points scored in the match wet to Dax second-rower Thomas Ceyte. His try was inverted by former Pumas fly half Ignacio Mieres. The 7-0 lead was short lived as Ormaechea’s first try leveled the scores in the 14th minute.
Excellent tactical kicking from Mieres resulted in Dax reclaiming the lead. Mires’ second conversion made it a 14-7 scoreline after 32 minutes. A third try followed in the 38th minute to make it a fourteen point gap.
The teams went into the interval with it down to seven. Ormeachea’s second try was converted by Clément Otazo. The Uruguayan was then replaced as were eleven others. Of the four remaining one was Argentine prop Carlos Muzzio.
The changes saw the deficit overcome. 53 minutes in the scores were tied at 21-21. A penalty then gave Mont de Marsan a one point lead as Ormaechea’s club were asserting control.
Before the match reached its conclusion there was room for Argentine back-rower Martín Chiappesoni to enters the scorers list. The Dax forward crossed for the final score of the match, which made it a 35-31 game.
