Revol leads Pumas to win as Finals set

Gastón Revol sparked an improbable comeback for the Pumas as they rebounded from a 21-0 deficit to win 26-21 and earn a spot in the 5th place final. It was the captain Revol who led the way with a try on each side of half time and 16 points in all, with two further scores from Matías Moroni sealing a great win. The Pumas will face New Zealand after the men in black dropped France 24-19.

The Gold Medal final will be contested by Fiji and Great Britain. Japan put in a brave performance but could not match the size and skill of the Fijians, losing 20-5. They will still have a chance to win a Bronze Medal against South Africa, who were upset by Great Britain 7-5 in the second semi final. Cecil Afrika was unable to convert Kyle Brown’s first half try from out wide and Tom Mitchell’s kick after a Dan Norton try proved to be the enough to send the Brits into the final after some heroic defense.

Play continues this afternoon at 16:30 ET, 17:30 local Brazilian time.
