Pumas end Olympic run in 6th place

Los Pumas fell to New Zealand 17-14 in their final match of the Olympic Games at Deodoro Stadium on Thursday. In doing so Argentina finish in 6th place, one spot lower than their 5th place standing on the HSBC Sevens Series. New Zealand built up a 17-0 lead with two tries from Akira Ioane and one via Tim Mikkelson. Argentina fought back late in the second half first through Juan Imhoff and finally Matías Moroni scoring to end the match.

Argentina finish with a record of three wins and three losses, with only one score separating them in their greatest defeat to Fiji. Their match against Great Britain in the quarter final was arguably the best of the tournament. Considering the tragic injuries suffered by Javier Rojas and Rodrigo Etchart in the opening match, Los Pumas have performed admirably and should be proud of their achievement.
