Both New Zealand and Argentina have suffered serious blows to their Olympic squads and have been forced to make changes after only one round. Each have lost two players, and complicating matters is that Olympic regulations state that only one replacement player can be added during the competition, meaning both teams will now be down to only 11 players for the duration.
New Zealand have lost both Sonny Bill Williams with a partial Achilles tear and Joe Webber to a dislocated shoulder. Called into the squad is Sione Molia.
Argentina will have to make do without star playmaker Javier Rojas and flying winger Rodrigo Etchart, both of whom have ruptured cruciate ligaments in their knees. Experienced halfback Nicolás Bruzzone has been added to the main squad.
