The governing body for rugby in North America and the Caribbean, Rugby Americas North has confirmed that Mexico will host Guyana on October 01. Set to be played in Mexico City the fixture will be the Rugby Americas North Qualifiers Final. The winner will go on to face the South American B Championship winner in November in repechage.
Mexico and Guyana earned their way into the Rugby Americas North Final by winning the North and South Zone qualifiers respectively. Las Serpientes completed comfortable 39-3 and 75-10 wins over the Bahamas and Bermuda before being challenged by the Cayman Islands. Mexico’s first half was ultimately sufficient to win 34-24.
Guyana also had two convincing wins out of three. They started off by defeating Barbados 48-17. It was followed by a 23-5 win over Jamaica also in Georgetown. This set up a winner-takes-all match against Trinidad & Tobago which Guyana snatched 23-18 in the Port of Spain.
