Tucumán Select 32 for Campeonato Argentino

With an eye on the national provincial glory Tucumán has selected a 32-man roster for the Campeonato Argentino.

The coaching staff, led by former Racing 92 and Pumas back-rower Álvaro Galindo, will meet with the selected players on Wednesday August 03 to begin preparations.

The roster includes a number of up-and-coming players, some of whom could be Los Jaguares or even Pumas. Hooker Santiago Iglesias Valdéz went to Europe in 2013 with Los Pumas, facing both England and Wales as a substitute. Daniel Hourcade did not take Iglesias Valdéz to the World Cup in 2015 and he is now fourth choice for the test side.

20-year-old Santiago Portillo is one to have emerged from the 2014 and 2015 Junior World Championships as an explosive back-rower. Earlier this year he played for the Argentina XV in both the Americas Rugby Championship and Nations Cup tournaments.

Also involved in the Americas Rugby Championship was highly promising fly half Domingo Miotti. Still a teenager, Miotti played in the World Rugby Junior World Championship this year.

Fullback Ignacio Albornoz played in the 2015 edition of the World Rugby under 20’s, joining both Miotti and Portillo. The value of Albornoz to the team was such that he started at fly half against Japan in the tournament.
