Pichot Reaffirms Argentina can Host Rugby World Cup 2027

World Rugby Vicepresident, Agustín Pichot has reaffirmed that Argentina is capable of organizing Rugby World Cup 2027. He is to meet again with the president of the Republic of Argentina, Mauricio Macri in October to push forward the candidacy.

He declared: “Argentina has a doubt which is to host a Rugby World Cup. It seems to me that Argentine rugby has the means of doing so, the club infrastructure is so strong and good. If we keep working like this I believe that it could be the host of a Rugby World Cup in the next ten years“.

In search of this objective he pointed out the strong relationship in place with the Macri administration. “Macri is a person who believes greatly in sports and has faith in what Argentina wis capable of contributing in the future. The executive week of World Rugby is coming to Buenos Aires in the first week of October to see the match against New Zealand. There we will have another meeting with the president to further push our candidacy“.

Rugby World Cup 2027 will be the eleventh edition of the tournament. No previous Rugby World Cup has taken place in the Americas. Japan will become Asia’s first host in 2019 while France, Ireland and Italy all seek to have Europe host the event in 2023. If so it would be the fifth of ten World Cups in the continent. 1995 host, South Africa, is also seeking to host for a second time in 2023.
