Brazil set to play Portugal in December

The governing body of Portugal rugby, the Federação Portuguesa de Rugby (FPR) has included on its calendar a home international against Brazil on December 3.

The match has been listed as to be confirmed but with Brazil already going to Europe to face Germany it is just a matter of time before it is made official.

Germany will host Brazil for a two match tour in November. The Germans will welcome Os Tupis on November 19 and 26, the two weekends before the possible fixture against Os Lobos (Portugal).

If it does go ahead it will mark just the second test match between the countries. The prior international took place at the Arena Barueri in Greater São Paulo in 2003. On that occasion the western Europeans dominant, winning 68-0.

Since 2003, however, Brazil had made clear progress. Os Tupis have closed the gap on Chile and claimed an historic victory over the USA earlier this year in the Americas Rugby Championship.

Portugal, in contrast, are on a downward slope. Earlier this year the Rugby World Cup 2007 participants were relegated from the European Nations Cup. This same both Germany and Spain surviving and both now plan on developing further.
