Cubelli to Start Super Rugby Quarter Final

Tomás Cubelli will start Friday’s Super Rugby Quarter Final, doing so for the Brumbies at scrum half. The Puma has made the number 9 shirt his own this season, having been named the best player in his position in Australia.

It marks a big week for Cubelli who will make history on Friday. On Wednesday the Belgrano Athletic product was named in Argentina’s squad for the Rugby Championship. He is the only player not involved with Los Jaguares to have been selected.

In order to advance to the final four the Brumbies must win their home match. Their opponents are to be the 2015 champions, the Highlanders.

With home advantage and the return of David Pocock, the Canberra-based franchise enter in good stead. Pocock is one of a host of World Cup Wallabies named by Stephen Larkham. Other big names include Sam Carter, Scott Fardy, Tevita Kuridrani, Stephen Moore, Scott Sio and Matt Toomua.

Cubelli will form a halves partnership with Christian Leali’ifano. Having missed the World Cup Leali’ifano earned a Wallabies recall this year. He played in all three home matches against England last month.
