Marcelo Rodríguez Voted in as new Sudamérica Rugby President

In the Sudamérica Rugby Annual General Assembly Latin America’s rugby governing body unveiled Marcelo Rodríguez as the organization’s new president.

On Saturday July 02 in Buenos Aires the board held annual elections, including that of the presidency. The annual meeting confirmed the departure of Carlos Barbieri (pictured to the right). Replacing him as President is Marcelo Rodríguez (pictured to the left) in what is a four year term. Involved in there Assembly were presidents or representatives of Sudamérica Rugby members.

Born at the foot of the Andes in San Juan province, Argentina, Rodríguez played as a center for the Universidad Nacional de San Juan for San Juan province. Following his retirement Rodríguez has held a variety of roles in the provincial union. Moreover, since 2012, he has been on the UAR board.

Present at the annual meeting were a number of World Rugby representative. Among them were Tom Jones, Regional General Manager – Americas and Santiago Ramallo, World Rugby’s development manager for Sudamérica Rugby.

Voted in as Sudamérica Rugby first Vice President was Antonio Vizintín (Uruguay). Behind him as the second Vice President is Salvador Encinas.

Victór Luaces takes up the role of Secretary while Ariel Mamanna is the new Treasurer. Both men are from Argentina.

Also elected to the board are Xavier Vouga (Brazil), Oscar Moreira Lacasa (Paraguay) and Antonio Quintero (Venezuela, Grupo B representative).

In addition Tomás Petersen (Argentina), Andrés Pieroni (Uruguay), Sebastián Bianchi (Chile) and Nathaly Montonya Ruales (Perú, Grupo B representative).
