Jaguares Return to Winning Ways Against Bulls

Los Jaguares returned to winning ways this evening, downing the Bulls 29-11 in extremely wet conditions in Buenos Aires. The three-tries-to-zero win will serve the majority of the players well ahead of the Rugby Championship.

No fewer then thirteen players who started against France for Los Pumas last Saturday turned out against the Bulls this evening. A switch of shirts served them well as they Argentine team played the better rugby in testing conditions to earn their shirt win of the Super Rugby season.

Having already have lost too many matches the win will, ultimately, count for little. Argentina’s quest to play in the Super Rugby play-off’s will have to wait for at least one year.

The desire to have a home-based professional team, though, was never motivated on winning Super Rugby. Instead it was to provide Argentina with a platform to be self-sufficient and have full-time access to players for the test side.

Leading from the front was Jaguares and Pumas captain Agustín Creevy. The hooker crossed for two of his team’s three tries and was solid around the park. Also delivering a fine performance was Pablo Matera, the remaining Jaguares try scorer.

The Bulls one try came well into the second half with Piet van Zyl crossing. It was too little too late for the Pretoria-based side who now face an uphill battle to reach the play-offs.

Next up for the Buenos Aires based side is a home match against the 2015 champions, the Highlanders. It will be followed by a final round fixture, also at home, against the Lions.
