Americas Rankings – June 26 2016

There have been changes to the Americas Rankings following international competition this weekend. The updated Americas Rankings – June 26 2016 see the USA and Canada trading places.

Argentina’s 0-27 humiliation loss against France on Saturday has seen the South Americans dropping to 9th in the world. The drop from 5th place sees Argentina falling behind Wales, Ireland, Scotland and France. This is the case despite both Wales and Ireland suffering multiple losses this month while Argentina won two out of three.

The loss sees no change of ranking in the Americas for Argentina. With Los Pumas being the Americas Champions and having been the leading team in the professional era the gap remains significant. Argentina’s new ranking of 80.20 is a significant drop from 82.87. Wins must now come in the Rugby Championship and November Internationals to avoid an unfavorable draw in Rugby World Cup 2019.

Having entered the week in second position Canada with 65.19 points the updated rankings are not favorable. In having lost 20-18 in Toronto Canada’s updated ranking is 64.53 points and therefore a fall back to third behind the USA. Uruguay is on close watch in fourth.

The USA’s 25-0 shutout of Russia gives the Eagles a new ranking of 65.50 points. It means there is a gap of almost one full ranking point between the North Americans and sees them trading places in the Americas and World Rankings. Monday’s updated World Rankings list will have the USA at 17th ahead of Canada in 18th.

By virtue of losing both matches so heavily in North America Russia now returns home ranked outside of the world’s top 20. Namibia is back in at 20th with Russia at 21st ahead of Hong Kong. Spain, Belgium and Germany complete the world’s top 25 ranked countries.
