Brazil Finish Runners-up in Rome Sevens

The 2016 Olympic hosts, Brazil finished runners-up in the Rome Sevens. Played on Friday and Saturday the tournament was the final warm-up competition for the Brazilian men’s Rugby Sevens team ahead of Rio 2016.

Os Tupis had a solid tournament, completing wins over some of rugby’s leading countries. In the end the Brazilians settled for second place, going down 17-7 against South Africa in the final on Saturday evening.

Earlier on in the day Brazil had completed wins over both Chile and France at the Quarter Finals and Semi Finals stage. The 12-7 and 14-5 wins followed an impressive opening day which included a win over Tunisia.

Brazil was joined in the Rome Sevens by Chile and by the Venezuelan women’s Rugby Sevens team. Both the Chilean men’s and Venezuelan women’s teams are set to compete in the respective repechage qualification for Rio 2016.

Las Orquídeas fell 45-0 to the Olympic-bound Kenya and also lost 26-0 against South Africa. The Venezuelans, nonetheless, overcame Italy, winning 19-10 and also defeated composite side Spinose Seven 27 -7.
