Bustos Moyano Masterpiece Boots Bayonne into Top 14

Scoring all 21 of Bayonne’s points Córdoba’s goal kicking fullback, Martín Bustos Moyano produced a masterpiece to boot Bayonne back into the Top 14.

Kicking seven goals from eight attempts, Bustos Moyano out performed the Pro d2’s leading scorer of the season, Maxime Petitjean. The Aurillac goal kicker kicked landed four out of his seven attempts. The difference between them was what secured Bayonne’s triumph.

In addition to Bustos Moyano fellow former Puma Benjamin Macome is contracted to the club. Macome was not involved in the final but two Chileans forwards were. Pablo Huete played second-row while Ramón Ayarza was Bayonne’s replacement loosehead prop.

Having been relegated in the final round of the 2014-2015 season Bayonne have managed to complete an immediate return to France’s domestic premiership. The Basque club’s 21-16 win over Aurillac enables the Basque community to breath more easily.

Crisis in the region not only saw both Bayonne and Biarritz playing in the Pro d2 this season but Biarritz has been relegated to the third division, the Fédérale 1 on financial  grounds. Biarritz could yet avoid relegation if the club is able to put its books in order.

In securing promotion to the Top 14 Bayonne and the Pro d2 regular season winning Lyon are to replace Agen and Oyonnax. Next season’s Top 14 is to thereby be a repeat of the same fourteen teams from the 2014-2015 season.
