Bermuda See off Bahamas in Rugby World Cup Qualifier

Bermuda saw off the Bahamas in Rugby World Cup Qualifier, winning 30-13 this afternoon at the country’s National Sports Center.

Outscoring the Bahamas by four tries to two the victory sees Bermuda having completed a strong turn-around after having gone down 75-10 against Mexico in May. For the Bahamas it was a third-consecutve defeat following 39-3 and 20-8 losses against Mexico and the Cayman Islands respectively.

Bermuda secured the win through a try-scoring double from left winger Nigel Burgess while outside center Antonio Perinchief and flanker Bennet Gibson each scored one. The Bahamas’ tries came through Ryan Knowles and Andrew Kemp.

Today’s fixture was the only Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifier of the weekend. Qualification in Rugby Americas North will continue on June 18 with the first of three games seeing Jamaica hosting Barbados. Neither country is yet to win a qualifying fixture making their match the most winnable for both.

Also playing on June 18 will be Trinidad & Tobago at home to Guyana and Bermuda taking on the Cayman Islands in an away match. Bermuda will need to overcome the Cayman Islands to stand any chance of progressing.
