Bermuda Out to Topple Bahamas in Saturday’s RWC Qualifier

Bermuda are out to topple Bahamas in tomorrow’s Rugby World Cup 2019 Qualifier. The Rugby Americas North member unions will face-off in the only qualifier taking place this weekend.

Both teams had had unfavorable starts to their campaigns, with three losses to show and no wins between them. Bermuda are coming off a 75-10 hammering at the hands of Mexico while the Bahamas enters that match having lost by scores of 20-8 and 39-3 against the Cayman Islands and Mexico respectively.

In addition to having lost by a comparatively higher margin against Mexico, Bermuda’s last outing against the Bahamas saw them on the wrong side of the score sheet. In the 2015 fixture between the island nations a late try to Charles Smith saw the Bahamas winning 21-15 in Nassau.

Since then Bermuda has been looking to rebuild. Gone to retirement are a number of experienced players including Paul Dobinson and Mike Williams.

The real story of Saturday’s home match from Bermuda’s experience is growth. In addition to the Rugby World Cup Qualifier the National Sports Center will see three other rugby matches taking place. A youth match will get things under way at 3.30pm. It is to be followed by Bermuda vs Bahamas while  a women’s Sevens game will then take place while the Atlantic Cup clash between a Harlequins Invitational XV and Bermuda Barbarians rounds things off at 7.30pm.
