Argentine lock Demián Panizzo has extended his contract with Colomiers until the end of the 2016/17 season plus a one year option. The powerful 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the engine room since arriving in France in 2014 from Belgrano, appearing in 23 matches this year for the Pro D2 semi-finalists. Despite receiving offers from elsewhere and rumours suggesting Colomiers could not afford to keep him, Panizzo will instead stay at Stade Michel Bendichou for at least another year.
Something of a late bloomer, Panizzo was a regular starter for Belgrano in the URBA top division but never progressed to challenging for Pumas honours. Discipline and fitness issues had stalled his progress until he arrived at Colomiers. He has since dropped from 125kg (275lbs) to 116kg (255lbs) and is now achieving consistent form that could see him progress to higher levels of play in the future.
