French site Rugby Rama has named Mario Ledesma as one of the ten greatest Clermont players of all time. In naming the Pumas great the site posted the following:
Coming through Narbonne and Castres before joining Clermont Auvergne in 2005, “Super Mario” was one of the spearheads of the pack that won the Bouclier de Brennus (Top 14 title) in 2010. The Argentine hooker (84 caps) was formidable in the tight play. A qualified player with a medical degree, he spent six seasons at Clermont. Having lost three finals he won the title in 2007.
Ledesma played for Clermont from 2005-2011. He went on to hand up his boots at the Quarter Finals stage of Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand. The tournament was his fourth Rugby World Cup and his 84th and final cap was a record at the time.
His attention immediately turned to coaching. Remaining in France Ledesma was Stade Français’ forwards coach for the 2011-2012 season. He subsequently joined Montpellier, occupying the same position until late 2014. In early 2015 he moved to Australia to help the Waratahs and subsequently be appointed forwards coach to the Wallabies.
