Germishuys named top u20 Trophy Player

US Eagles prospect Hanco Germishuys has been named Player of the Tournament for the World Rugby u20 Trophy. The 19-year-old was immense as captain of the Junior All-Americans, scoring an incredible eight tries in four games, well ahead of all other competitors. While his team ended up in 5th place, it was only a pair of two-point losses that kept them out of the final.

It’s been a breakthrough year Germishuys, who moved to the USA from South Africa at the age of 14. After leading the All-Americans to victory over Canada in Texas, made his senior Eagles test debut as a replacement against Brazil in the Americas Rugby Championship. He then signed a professional contract with Denver for the inaugural PRO Rugby season, and debuted in the pink jersey against Sacramento on the weekend.

Having played exclusively as a loose forward thus far, he has been earmarked as a potential test hooker, having been named at that position in the Eagles Elite Development Training Group. He will have strong guidance in Denver, with Eagles World Cup hooker Zach Fenoglio currently their first choice no2.
