Canada and USA flounder on Paris Day One

Both Canada and the USA got off to the worst possible start at the HSBC Sevens Series event in Paris on Friday. Canada suffered a brutal 42-5 defeat to hosts France largely thanks to a dominant performance from star attacker Virimi Vakatawa.

The Canadians at least managed a try from Adam Zaruba, something the Americans could not claim as the Eagles were dispatched with an embarrassing 36-0 score courtesy of Argentina.

Brazil meanwhile can take solace that they were nearly as good as the Eagles, coming up short 38-0 against Australia. Elsewhere the favorites all achieved their targets with Kenya, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, and South Africa all convincing winners.

Argentina will look to add to Canada’s misery early on Day Two, while the Eagles will look to redeem themselves against France. Brazil have the unenviable task of following Australia with South Africa. All matches will be streamed live by World Rugby.
