Americas Rankings – May 1 2016

There have been changes to the Americas Rankings following international competition this weekend. The updated Americas Rankings – May 01 2016 see improvements for Brazil while the Dominican Republic and Turks & Caicos both rise to new highs.

Despite winning big in Asunción there is no change to Uruguay‘s rankings position nor points system. This is the case due to Uruguay entering the fixture with a vastly superior ranking to that of Paraguay. Uruguay thereby remains fourth behind Canada while Paraguay is seventh ahead of Trinidad and Tobago.

Chile is not so lucky. By virtue of drawing 20-20 against Brazil in São Paulo Chile’s ranking has taken a hit, dropping from 55,99 to a new ranking of 55,73 points. It will see no change to Chile’s ranking in the Americas but in World Rankings terms Chile is to fall from 27th to 28th, trading places with Kenya.

Brazil’s new ranking of 50,67 is a slight climb from 50,41. It means the Brazilians overtake Poland in the World Rankings and move slightly further ahead of Paraguay in the Americas Rankings. Os Tupis, nonetheless, remain well behind Los Cóndores though further international competition may change this, starting with Brazil’s upcoming home international against Kenya.

In the Caribbean the ranking of three nations has been changed, all three experiencing alterations for the first time in fact. Since the creation of the Americas Rankings in January there has been little movement in Americas Rugby North member nations.

This is no longer the case as two matches were played in Santo Domingo this weekend. The Dominican Republic played a home international against Curaçao while Turks & Caicos were in action on Saturday also against Curaçao.

The Dominican Republic’s 20 point win on Friday sees the Caribbean island nation’s ranking rise from the inaugural 30,00 points to 31,05. Similarly, the points exchange sees Curaçao dropping to be the 40th and bottom ranked nation in the Americas.

Curaçao’s ranking was reinforced by also losing against Turks & Caicos. Entering the match with a ranking of 28,95 Curaçao’s 41-10 loss sees the southern Caribbean’s fall to the ranking of 27,61 points. With it Curaçao are 40th in the Americas compared to Turks & Caicos in 20th and the Dominican Republic in 21st.

Additional alterations may transpire next weekend. Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay will take to the field in round three of the South American A Championship. There is also to be a Rugby World Cup qualifying match with the Bahamas hosting Mexico on Saturday.
