The Central American Republic of Guatemala is fast-tracking its development programs. The union’s quest to become a full Sudamérica Rugby member in 2017 and eventual World Rugby member has the organization busy in finding ways to develop rugby in the junior, senior, Rugby Sevens and, now, women’s categories.
Held in Guatemala City yesterday, a special meeting presented plans to get Women’s rugby into the Get Into Rugby program by 2020. Present were the current and future leaders of Guatemalan rugby in addition to Fabricio Tzorin, the newly appointed official to handle women’s rugby at the national level and Head Coach looking towards Nicaragua in 2017.
Guatemala’s senior men’s team, Los Jaguares, will meet face Ecuador in a play-off in June. The winner will secure a place in the South American B Championship which will take place in Lima, Peru in October. Colombia and Venezuela are to be the two additional participants in the four nations competition. The loser of the play-off will play in the South American C Championship.
