Guyana overpower Barbados in World Cup Qualifier

Guyana overpowered Barbados in a Rugby World Cup qualifier on Saturday, winning 48-17 at the National Park in Playfield, Guyana. The comprehensive victory means Guyana has one foot in the door in the subsequent round of the Americas qualifying series.

The victorious Guyana will take to the field again on May 21 against Jamaica. The three countries together with Trinidad and Tobago make up the South Zone of the Caribbean section of the Rugby World Cup 2019 qualification. The winner of the four will take-on the North Zone winner in a championship final on July 23.

A total of twenty countries from the Americas are competing for the right to join Argentina in representing the region at Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. The participants are Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela.
