Brazil Name team for Uruguay

Os Tupis Head Coach Rodolfo Ambrosio has selected the Brazil team for Saturday’s home international against Uruguay in São Paulo. Brazil will be playing host to their southern neighbors in an opening round fixture of the 2016 South American A Championship.

Ambrosio is without several players, most notably Australian David Harvey. The fly half was not flown over to Brazil for the fixture. Notwithstanding eight of the fifteen are returning players from the last time in which the countries met.

In relation to the side which faced the Argentina XV in the Americas Rugby Championship there are ten players who retain their starting positions. Moreover seven replacements are also back to face Los Teros. Combined Ambrosio has access to seventeen of the twenty-three who last represented Brazil at senior level.

The Sancery brothers are back starting at fullback and outside center respectively. They are to be joined by the highly regarded wingers Stefano Giantorno and Laurent Bourda-Couhet. The hero from the win over the USA, Moisés Duque moves from outside center to fly half for this weekend’s fixture.

The move of Moisés enables his brother, Lucas, to start at scrum half. The experience of the São José Rugby pairing is certain to be paramount to Brazil’s chances against Uruguay.

Experience and mobility has been the choice by Ambrosio for his forwards. Nick Smith, Cléber Dias and João Luiz da Ros will be busy as ball-carrying forwards throughout the afternoon. Joining them will be second-rowers Diego Lopez and Lucas Piero, the former being a likely player for Brazil’s 7’s team in the Olympic Games.

Up front Brazil will be aiming to ask questioned of the well-regarded Teros scrum. Caique Silva, Yan Rosetti and Jonatas Paulo have gotten the nod to start.

Brazil and Uruguay have met on 23 occasions in the past. Uruguay has dominated, winning 20 matches with there having been a long time since Brazil last won against Los Teros. Not withstanding, Uruguay was fortunate to defeat Os Tupis in their recent match in the Americas Rugby Championship. Uruguay won 33-29 after having been trailing the home side.
