Uruguay Roster for South American A Championship

A 25-man Uruguay Roster has been named for the South American A Championship. Starting this coming weekend, the four nations competition will see Uruguay competing against Brazil, Chile and Paraguay for the honor of officially being the number two ranked nation in South America.

On the line is a place in the 2017 Sudamérica Rugby Cup. Replacing the former CONSUR Cup the competition featuring Argentina and the top two from the previous year’s edition of the South American A Championship. In 2015 Chile and Uruguay were the top two and, as such, they are to play against the Argentina XV following the upcoming South American A Championship.

Representing Uruguay in the competition are to be a host of familiar names. Head Coach Esteban Meneses has six players who went to Rugby World Cup 2015 and a number of Los Teros 7’s players. Not selected are European based professionals, forcing Los Teros to play below full-strength.

For the opening round fixture against Brazil in São Paulo on Saturday, Meneses has selected the following 25 players. Changes are to be made for following matches against Chile and Paraguay.
