Hilterbrand on Bench for Waratahs

USA Eagle front rower James Hilterbrand has been named to the bench for the Waratahs in their Super Rugby clash against the Rebels this weekend. After long being linked to the USA, Hilterbrand made his debut for the Eagles during the Americas Rugby Championship when he came off the bench against Canada. If he sees action this weekend, Hilterbrand will become only the third capped Eagle to play in Super Rugby joining Todd Clever and current Sunwolves’ flanker Andrew Durutalo. Making an appearance against the Rebels would put the 26 year old Australian in rare company.

Hilterbrand had seen previous action in Super Rugby during the 2013 season when he made two appearances for the Western Force, but this could be his first since being capped by the USA. James Paterson had also made 21 appearances for the Highlanders before being capped by the USA, but did not see any further action in Super Rugby after making his Eagle debut.

After signing with the Southern Kings during the off season, Hilterbrand returned to Australia and landed with the Waratahs where he has battled his way into the lineup. The Waratahs are currently 2-2 in Super Rugby play this season.
