Reigning Top 14 Champions, Stade Français are reported to be after the services of Felipe Contepomi. On Monday Midi Olympique said that the club’s Head Coach, Gonzalo Quesada is to look to his homeland to find a backs coach for the 2016-2017 season.
The French publication reports Felipe Contepomi as being Quesada’s ‘Plan A’ while former Pumas center ‘Martin Gaitán’ is ‘Plan B’. Both Contepomi and Gaitán have both held supporting coaching roles in Argentina, currently with Los Jaguares.
Despite winning the 2014-2015 Top 14 title, Stade Français is currently sitting in 12th position. The club has struggled this season in the the French league but will, nevertheless, appear in the European Championship Cup Quarter Finals.
Before retirement in 2013, Felipe Contepomi had been playing his rugby for the Parisian club. He did for from 2011-2013 having transferred from Toulon whom he played for from 2009-2011. His four years in France were preceded by six years at Leinster and two in the Premiership for Bristol.
Gaitán also spent time in the Top 14, playing for Biarritz from 2002-2007. He was forced into retirement before the age of 30 after he suffered heart problems playing against Wales in a warm-up match ahead of Rugby World Cup 2007. He had previously played in Rugby World Cup 2003, scoring a hat-trick against Namibia. Contepomi played in four Rugby World Cups.
