US Eagles flyhalf AJ MacGinty will miss the next four weeks of the European club season with a shoulder injury suffered while playing for Irish club Connacht against Leinster on the weekend. The 26-year-old has been in fine form for the Guinness Pro 12 table toppers, starting five consecutive games for the side, all of them victories.
The news comes at a bad time for the Galway-based club with long-term casualty Jack Carty still recovering from a ruptured spleen and Craig Ronaldson out for another three weeks with an ankle injury. That leaves Canadian age-grade international Shane O’Leary as the most likely starter in the no10 jersey for key league matches against Ulster and Munster, and a Challenge Cup quarter-final against Grenoble.
MacGinty has played 12 games across all competitions for Connacht since joining the club following the completion of the World Cup in October. With his contract set to expire in June and Marnitz Boshoff signed for the 2016-17 season, MacGinty is expected to move elsewhere in the off-season, with Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership emerging as top candidate for his signature in recent days.
