Canadian forward Admir Cejvanovic has been receiving extra attention in recent days. After being featured in a World Rugby story and subsequent video, the Burnaby Lake no8 has now jumped into the mainstream with a short feature on CNN filmed at the Vancouver 7s.
Born in Velika Kladuša, Bosnia, Cejvanovic emigrated to Canada with his mother at age four in 1994. He was selected to the Canada u20 side in 2010 as a prop, but his mobility quickly saw him move to the back row with Burnaby and after a couple dominant seasons in the CDI Premier League he was invited to trial for national honours in both 7s and XVs.
It was the shorter game that Cejvanovic would ultimately achieve senior international recognition, making his HSBC Sevens Series debut on the Dubai stop of the 2014-15 season. In doing so he became the first Bosnian-born player to appear on the circuit. He has now played in 12 tournaments, scoring 14 tries and establishing himself as a regular in the Canadian team.
