Torneo del Interior B: Week 1 Results

The Torneo del Interior B got underway on Saturday. Debuting were eight of the eighteen involved clubs, including two sides from Uruguay.

Uruguay’s national club champion, Old Christians Club had a dream debut in Argentina’s Torneo del Interior B, the third division of Argentina’s national club rugby.

Following more than 10 years being out of official Argentine competitions, two Uruguayan clubs have the opportunity to compete again, as Uruguay and Argentina work together to strengthen the level of rugby played by the lower tier union.

Of the two Uruguayan clubs competing the results were mixed in the opening round of competition this past weekend. Old Boys fell to a 21-17 against Mar del Plata club, San Ignacio in the Argentine beach resort city. The Old Christians Club had a day to remember, hammering Rosario club Logaritmo 51-7.

Also this weekend was a surprising result in which Río Negro club Marabunta de Cipoletti defeated Universitario de Mar del Plata 27-19 in an away fixture.

Chaco province club CURNE de Resistencia completed the performance of round 1, defeating Universitario de Santa Fe 62-5.

Round two of the Torneo del Interior B will be played on Saturday April 02, with the following fixtures: Teqüe RC vs Liceo RC, Huirapuca vs Old Lions, Old Christians Club (Uruguay) vs CURNE, San Patricio vs Logaritmo, Old Boys (Uruguay) vs Universitario de Mar del Plata, Bigornia vs San Ignacio, Los Tordos vs Natación y Gimnasia and Jockey Club de Villa María vs Jockey Club de Córdoba.
