Canadian international DTH van der Merwe scored a try for the Scarlets who march towards the Semi Finals of the Guinness Pro 12. The Canadian’s five pointer was the only Scarlets try of the match in which the western Welsh region defeated the Ospreys at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium for the first time since 2007.
The hard fought 25-16 win sees the Scarlets strongly positioned for the play-offs. The away win sees the Llanelli based Welsh region occupying third position, just two competition points behind Leinster. For the Ospreys the loss was disastrous. The Swansea based region has fallen behind the Cardiff Blues into 9th position putting them twelve competition points outside of their required position to qualify for next season’s European Champions Cup.
Round 19 will see the Ospreys playing away to the Newport Gwent Dragons while the Scarlets will host the Cardiff Blues.
