With the British & Irish Cup knock-outs handing a two week break to some and one week for others, all 12 teams are back in regular rotation in Week 19 of the Greene King IPA Championship. Entering the third quarter of the season Bristol remain the hot favorites for promotion to the Aviva Premiership, while Moseley have now fallen two points below Ealing into the relegation zone.
Friday afternoon’s weekend curtain raiser was won by Jersey, with the Islanders taking a narrow 22-20 win over visiting London Scottish. Argentines Ignacio Sáenz Lancuba and Martin García Veiga both featured for the victorious home side, with Evan Olmstead flanking again for the Exiles.
Saturday has only one game involving an Americas player. Cornish Pirates host Moseley at Mennaye Field with Canadian international Matt Evans tabbed to start on the left wing.
More Canucks feature on Sunday. Justin Blanchet starts on the blindside for Bedford Blues against Yorkshire Carnegie at Headingley. Meanwhile just a few miles south Doncaster host Bristol at Castle Park. Jon Phelan will start at lock for the Knights, with Tyler Hotson on the bench and Trinidad & Tobago’s Bevon Armitage also among the reserves. Former Pumas tighthead Gastón Cortes should make an appearance as a substitute for the visitors.
