Quito, Ecuador gets Rugby Field

Rugby’s continued growth throughout the Americas has seen an important realization in the western South American country of Ecuador. The nation’s capital, Quito has acquired a rugby-specific field at the traditional La Carolina park.

Quito is home to more than 300 rugby players. Spread across seven clubs these athletes and teams will be able to utilize the infrastructure at La Carolina park thanks to the Quito City Hall, Obras Quito  and the mayor, Mauricio Rodas.

Ecuador is not yet a World Rugby member but is an affiliated member of Sudamérica Rugby. Los Piqueros finished fourth and bottom of the 2015 South American B Championship in Lima, Peru. The national men’s team will face Guatemala, the winners of the South American C Championship, in repechage to determine who joins Colombia, Peru and Venezuela in the 2016 tournament.
