Gonzalo Camacho will leave Leicester Tigers at the end of the season. The Pumas winger originally signed for the Aviva Premiership club from Exeter ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, but a dreadful string of injuries prevented him from making his competitive debut until December of 2015. Since then he has started three Premiership matches.
The 31-year-old returned from a two-year absence to win his 24th cap for Argentina against Australia in July, but was not selected for the World Cup. Leicester head coach Richard Cockerill explained the decision not to offer Camacho a new contract.
“Gonzalo Camacho will leave at the end of the season. Tom Brady will take that slot. He is a young English qualified player and we think that will be better for us. Gonzalo has been fantastic for us. He has had some horrendous luck with injury but it’s right that we move in a different direction.
“He is a fantastic guy and has been a fantastic person within the environment, but the way we are with English qualified players within the EPS [Elite Player Squad] agreement, it is important that we keep our English player numbers high.”
