With the stated objective of establishing a solid group of players for the Pre-Olympic Women’s Rugby Sevens tournament, Venezuela are to participate in the Suramericano in Rio de Janeiro this coming weekend.
The host city of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games is hosting the Sevens meet as a means of preparing for what lies ahead. Joining Brazil and Venezuela will be a further six competing countries – Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
Venezuela’s national women’s Rugby Sevens side will compete in Group A against Brazil, Peru and Peru. Of them Brazil is pre-qualified for the Olympic Games. Group B will be comprised of the four remaining teams with Colombia also having secured a place at Rio 2016.
Venezuela will open against Uruguay on Saturday with matches following against Peru and Brazil. Semi Finals and Finals will take place on Sunday.
