A USA winger in advanced talks with Brive, Americas Rugby News has learned. The player in question is veteran Biarritz flier Takudzwa Ngwenya who is in negotiations with Top 14 side Brive about a summer move.
Ngwenya has been playing in France full time since 2007, doing so exclusively for Biarritz. He joined the club following a one-month trial in England with Saracens. Biarritz approached him with a better offer which he took and has been with the Basque club ever since.
The former giants of French rugby were relegated from the Top 14 to Pro d2 in 2014. Their desire of a return to the Top 14 is not likely to be realized this season. After 19 rounds the club is in 13th position, 16 points outside of the play-offs zone.
Despite the club failing to be competitive enough to push for promotion it has one of the largest budgets in France’s second division. With the third highest budget overall of €10,72 million per season and results not coming the club is cutting down with Ngwenya being one player having the option of leaving.
Brive are having a very positive season in the Top 14. After 14 rounds the club is in 7th position well clear of the relegation zone and in a genuine position to push for a place in the barrage play-offs and to qualify for next seasons European Champions Cup.
