2016 Rainforest International Sevens

With the participation of four countries from the Americas – Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Trinidad & Tobago the international Rugby Sevens competition, the Rainforest Rugby Sevens took place today in Costa Rica.

Ahead of the tournament Costa Rica Rugby Federation director Francisco Sequeira said “The Rainforest Rugby Sevens is the most important international Rugby Sevens competition organized in Costa Rica, with the presence of international teams of a competitively high level. Moreover it is an ideal setting to get to know a distinct, but a very attractive sport.”

With the sport now a part of the Olympic program it carries with it new found importance. The 2017 Central American Games in Managua, Nicaragua are to have Rugby Sevens. Involved will be countries who are present and future members of Sudamérica Rugby and Americas Rugby North.

At the Rainforest Rugby Sevens 2016 men’s and women’s teams were involved in competition. The focus of the competition was the women’s division which was won by Peru who defeated Trinidad & Tobago to be crowned champions. Costa Rica finished third.
