Hawley to join San Francisco PRO team

Former US Eagles winger Colin Hawley is set to sign for PRO Rugby. An international at both 7s and XVs, Hawley announced via social media that he has been assigned to the San Francisco franchise, though final assignment, according to the PRO Rugby email, was subject to change.

First capped against Georgia in 2009, Hawley represented the Eagles at the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand and won the last of his seven caps against Italy in 2012. He also spent two seasons with the Eagles 7s side on the HSBC Sevens Circuit – in 2011/12 and 2012/13 – and played in the 2013 Sevens World cup in Russia. The 28-year-old is currently attached to the Olympic club in the Bay area.

Hawley is the second player confirmed for participation in the inaugural PRO Rugby season, the first being current Americas Rugby Championship squad member Tom Bliss. More players are expected to be unveiled in the coming days. The new professional rugby competition is set to kick off on April 17.
