Canadian Women set for São Paulo

John Tait has named his team for the next round of the HSBC Women’s Sevens Series, set to take place starting Saturday in São Paulo, Brazil. The second tournament of the season also gives the athletes a chance to have a look at the country that will be hosting the inaugural Olympic Sevens, to be held at Rio de Janeiro – just 400km to the east – in August of this year.

Five changes have been made to the team that participated in Dubai. Hannah Darling, Bianca Farella, and Sara Kaljuvee have been included after recovering from injury, as well as Ghislaine Landry, a late withdrawal last time out after being named in the original squad. 19-year-old Breanne Nicholas makes her series debut having featured for the Maple Leafs development team in Dubai.

Left out are Caroline Crossley, Arielle Duboissette-Borrice, Emily Belchos, and Julia Greenshields. Magali Harvey is unavailable due to injury, along with Ashley Steacy, Elissa Alarie, and Natasha Watcham-Roy.

Canada finished in 6th place in Dubai. They are in Pool A for São Paulo, along with Australia, Fiji, and Ireland. The tournament kicks off at 11am local, 8am EST, and will be streamed live by World Rugby.
