Rugby 7’s Confirmed for 2017 Central American Games

Rugby 7’s has been confirmed for the 2017 Central American Games in Managua, Nicaragua. The Comité Ejecutivo de la Organización Deportiva Centroamericana (Central American Sporting Executive Committee – Ordeca) made the confirmation this weekend.

At the Crown Plaza Hotel in Managua Ordeca declared that Rugby Sevens is to join the region’s version of the Olympic Games.  Present at the meeting were Olympic Committee Presidents from Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Guatemala, Belize and Costa Rica.

All six countries are rugby playing nations as is El Salvador which was absent from the gathering. Of the seven Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama are Sudamérica Rugby members. Both Guatemala and Nicaragua have begun advancing towards future membership while Belize considers eventual Americas Rugby North membership as being of greater benefit due to language.
