USA World Cup forward Matt Trouville will miss the Americas Rugby Championship. The Seattle Saracens captain ruptured his patellar tendon while playing for his club against the UVic Vikes in CDI Premier League action over the weekend. Recovery times following surgery are typically in the six month range, so it could be a while before he is ready to lace up the boots again.
The setback is unwelcome news for the Eagles, who will now be without one of their most experienced forwards for the duration of the tournament. Trouville was an option at lock or no8 and was likely a strong candidate to captain the side on the two-game South American leg against Brazil and Uruguay. No replacement has been named as of yet but one will need to be added ahead of the Canada match at the latest, and most pressingly one who covers second row.
Australian-born Trouville has won 5 caps since making his debut against Romania in November 2014. He was a late call-up to the World Cup as a replacement for injured Scott LaValla after being left out of the initial squad and prior to that the Pacific Nations Cup.
