Evan Olmstead has signed for London Scottish in the Greene King IPA Championship. The big Canadian second row joins the team with immediate effect. Olmstead has confirmed that the contract runs until the end of the 2015/16 domestic season. He had been named in Canada’s squad for the Americas Rugby Championship but he will now be unavailable for the duration of the tournament. A replacement player will be named in due course, with one of Canada’s several overseas players targeted to fill the gap.
Vancouver-born but a resident of Sydney, Australia, for the past 20 years, Olmstead has been a standout for the Wolf Pack for the past two seasons and made his test debut in June against Samoa during the Pacific Nations Cup and his aggressive play earned him a spot on the World Cup roster. He has won seven caps for Canada. This is his first fully professional rugby contract.
London Scottish are currently in 8th spot on the Championship table, the second division of professional rugby in England. He will find familiar faces in World Cup teammates Aaron Carpenter, Matt Evans, and Wolf Pack captain Kyle Gilmour among a host of Canadians scattered about the league.
