Americas Players in Pro D2 Week 17

The Pro D2 slides a little further past halfway this weekend and the race towards promotion and away from relegation heats up. At least 15 Americas players are in action, with a couple more possibles for Sunday’s match in Lyon.

Biarritz lost their home game against Bayonne last evening with Takudzwa Ngwenya back in the starting lineup on the right wing. Pablo Huete started at lock for the visitors and fullback Martín Bustos Moyano had another night to remember scoring a heap of points. Look for him in the team of the week.

Martín Chiappesoni is the only Argentine in the Dax starting side this week, with Gerónimo Albertario on the bench and Ignacio Mieres holding a clipboard in the stands. Damien Panizzo runs out in the no5 shirt for Colomiers on the other side of the pitch.

Carcassonne hosts Provence with Nahuel Lobo playing loosehead prop and Felipe Berchesi at flyhalf. The Aix men wield Tomás Vallejos at lock and Leandro Assi as a reserve front row.

Two tightheads might give us some options this week come selection time. Damian Arias rolls out for Montauban against Albi, while Canada’s Andrew Tiedemann gets his second start for Bourgoin against a formidable Perpignan pack.

Nicolás Vergallo and Sebastián Poet continue as starting halfbacks for Tarbes against Narbonne, with prop Jerónimo Negrotto among the reserves.. The club has worked its way out of the basement despite being docked 15 league points for an administrative infraction. If they can somehow talk their way out of automatic relegation, there may yet be hope to remain in the Pro D2 next season.

Lyon welcome Mont-de-Marsan on Sunday, with the two Agustíns – Figuerola and Ormaechea – possibles to go head-to-head at scrumhalf for their respective sides. Carlos Muzzio is another who could play for Montois at prop.
