Argentina prop Juan Figallo is to Remain at Saracens, the Aviva Premiership club confirmed this morning. His new multi-year deal will see him continuing to play his rugby in England in the coming seasons.
Figallo joined Saracens from Montpellier who were forced to release him on medical grounds. The Argentine front-rower’s back injury was such that he did not meet the criteria to play in France. His move to Saracens has proven to have been a success with him having collected both Aviva Premiership and Anglo-Welsh Cup winners’ medals.
Capped 24 times by Argentina, Figallo. played his most recent test match for Los Pumas against South Africa in the Rugby World Cup 2015 Bronze Final. It was his second World Cup appearance but despite still only being 27 years of age Figallo is not guaranteed of further international selection.
Argentina’s new player on policy selection blocks those based in Europe from international duty. The likes of Marcos Ayerza, Marcelo Bosch, Mariano Galarza and Juan Imhoff are such names of players thereby now excluded from Los Pumas. Galarza, though, has made it known that he could yet play for Argentina in 2016. The greater rugby community will be wanting this extended to others in Europe too.
