Gómez Cora Eyes Four Pumas for Olympics

Los Pumas Sevens Head Coach Santiago Gómez Cora has eyed four Pumas for the Olympics. In his World Rugby column, the former Argentine Rugby Sevens great named World Cup Pumas Santiago Cordero, Matías Moroni, Jerónimo de la Fuente, and Javier Ortega Desio as players he intends to take with him to Rio de Janeiro.

All four players are all under contract with the UAR and will be playing Super Rugby for Los Jaguares in the upcoming campaign. Should he seek to include any or all of them on his Olympics roster he will be free to do so after having had discussions with Daniel Hourcade.

The Pumas Sevens and Argentina Head Coaches have a relationship which will enable both to utilize each others players.  The same is true of Los Jaguares with Cordero, Moroni, de la Fuente, and Ortega Desio all on track to play for the three teams in 2016.

The Pumas Sevens’ team is now in Wellington, New Zealand preparing for this weekend’s international competition. Missing are players from rugby XV but Gómez Cora insists that once Super Rugby has started there will be player movement. As such some UAR players could be included for later rounds of the World Sevens Series this season.
