The Estadio Municipal de La Pintana in Santiago, Chile, will play host to Canada when they face Los Condores in the final round of the Americas Rugby Championship. Originally slated for Saturday, March 5, a Chilean media source has indicated that the match has now been moved to Sunday, March 6, though this has not yet been confirmed by the union itself. The stadium has a capacity of 6,000 and is currently the home of two professional soccer clubs – Santiago Morning and Desportes La Pintana – and occasionally local rugby side Trapiales.
This will be the third test match between the two countries, with both previous games coming in 2002 as qualifiers for the 2003 World Cup. Canada won both – 27-6 in Calgary on August 17 and 29-11 in Santiago two weeks later. The latter was played at the Prince of Wales Country Club, one of the country’s most prestigious sporting clubs and a frequent contributor of players to the Chilean national team.
