Chile defeat Selection North in second Americas warm-up fixture

Los Condores preparation for the upcoming Americas Rugby Championship continued this past weekend with the second of two matches being played in Antofagasta. Chile defeated the Selection North in 41-20.

The test side opened an early advantage with second-rower Felipe Bassaletti crossing for a 12th minute try. Outside center Matías Nordenflycht added the conversion to make it 7-0. The Northern Selection would be kept pointless in the opening half while Chile added further tries through inside center José Ignacio Larenas and number 8 Benjamín Soto to give Los Condores a 26-0 lead at the interval.

The Northern Selection got on the board in the second half with Federico Heredia opening their account with a well-struck penalty. But it was Los Condores’ game with Nordenflycht crossing for a try and replacement Ignacio Silva and left winger Ítalo Zunino following.

Well behind the Northern Selection crossed for a late try by Aldo Cornejo to finish the scoring at 41-20. Cornejo’s try was the only one of the match for his side. The team’s remaining points were from goals.

Following the fixture Los Condores returned to the capital of Santiago to prepare for the opening round of the Americas Rugby Championship. Chile will take-on Brazil in a home fixture on February 06. Expected to be the basement battle a whip for Chile looms as likely being sufficient to avoid the wooden spoon.
